Rubén Vicente (Guadalajara, Spain, 1977) received his degree in Chemistry in 2000 (Complutense University of Madrid, UCM-Spain). Then, he worked in b-lactam chemistry with Prof. M. A. Sierra (UCM) and in the industry. In 2002 he moved to the University of Oviedo (Spain) where he obtained his Ph. D. (with honors) in 2006 working on synthetic applications of Fischer-carbene complexes, under the guidance of Prof. J. Barluenga. He complemented his formation with research stays at the University of Bonn (Prof. K. Muñiz) and Boston College (Prof. M. L. Snapper). He was a post-doctoral fellow (MEC and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation) in the group of Prof. L. Ackermann (Georg-August-University, Göttingen, Germany, 2007-2009), where his research was focused on C–H-bond functionalizations. In 2010, he returned to the University of Oviedo as a “Juan de la Cierva” fellow and since 2012 he is a "Ramón y Cajal" fellow. His research interests include, among others, the discovery of new reactivity patterns or the functionalization of inert bonds via transition metal-catalysis in a sustainable manner.
